here's the deal.
in the next month or so, i should be finishing up my MA studies here at Uni Freiburg.
i have been offered a job teaching english at a language school in freiburg. with room to grow. i'm taking it.
so, i guess this means i won't be moving back to the states any time soon. i'll be indefinitely extending this european holiday i've been on for the last few years. living modestly yet loving euro life. now it's your turn to save up lots of cash to buy a plane ticket over here to visit me. i recommend coming in the autumn or spring when the rates are low. act fast before the dollar hits rock bottom. i'll luckily be earning fat euros.

So, today, on the other side of the world, the US Mint and Federal Reserve officailly released the new One Dollar coin program. It starts with a picture of G. Washington and will continue with new pictures of dead presidents every three months until 2016. Google it for more details than that.
I hope this succeeds, but it will most likely fail and fail miserably, as long as we still have crumpled dirty bills around.
An AP poll claims that three fourths of US citizens object to replacing the paper bill with a coin equivalent.
This means that 75% of the country are fucking idiots, and have influenced legislation that will keep stupid dollar bills around for god knows how much longer. Thanks assholes.
Have they ever set foot outside of their fantasy land and realized that pants don't fall down from coin weight any more in other countries than they would at home, and that vending machines aren't that hard to reprogram?
A whole fucking continent switched to the Euro. I think we should be able to handle a new coin without whining.
Also, they felt they needed to put "In God We Trust" on another piece of currency. Don't get me started on that shit. |

for the next week, i'll be taking part in a scientific census-type study to measure the mobility and routes taken by the average german resident. this requires me to carry on my person at all times a GPS tracking/recording device. anytime i leave the flat, this thing will record where and when and how long i am en route or at any location.
they said there'd be cash involved at the end. otherwise i wouldn't be up for it.

it's halloween time. my favorite holiday of them all. better than jesus' birthday and death weekend combined.
but alas i'm abroad. i'll be leaving england just before the big day and i'm not into the H parties that i've been invited to this weekend. and i'll be heading back to germany where they don't really celebrate that kind of thing. it's upsetting.
but in the spirit of the holiday, i would like to talk about what makes or breaks a good haunted house.
over the years i've kept notes on all the haunted houses i've visited and what things scare me. NOTHING. they just try too damn hard.
the perfect scary scenarios are the ones in which you are completely alone with your fear. fear of the unknown. not fear of a clown mask and a chainsaw or a glowing alien in blacklight.
